What is the Add a VAPA Credential Program?
The Add a Credential Program, offered by the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) School of Education, allows multiple- and single-subject credentialed teachers to expand their expertise by earning an additional single subject TK-12 credential in Art, Dance, Music, or Theatre.
Program Highlights
- Convenient Format: Tailored to fit the schedules of working teachers throughout California- courses are hosted on Saturdays and held virtually
- Subject Matter Preparation Support: CSET preparation course optional as need
- Cost: $2,000 (includes both CSET prep course and Methodology course)

Program Requirements
If you hold a valid
Clear or Life Multiple or Single Subject Teaching Credential, you will need to:
- Meet the Subject Matter Requirement
- Take and pass all necessary CSET tests
- Show that you have met the requirement by earning a related Bachelor’s degree (will be determined by SCOE Director)
- Show that you have met the requirement using college coursework (will be determined by SCOE Director)
- Possess an English learner authorization (automatically included with any credential earned within California)
- Complete a three-semester-unit course in methodology directly related to teaching in a departmentalized setting in the specific content area sought (provided by SCOE)
- Complete CTC application and pay processing fee
* If you hold a
Preliminary Multiple or Single Subject Teaching Credential that is not “cleared,” you will also need to show that you have met the U.S. Constitution requirement (this was met if you were granted a credential in California).
